Xavier’s K-12 Education Delegation to China a Huge Success

June 12, 2014

Xavier’s CI coordinated its first delegation of educators/administrators from throughout the state of Louisiana to visit China in May-June 2014.  The delegation was led by Dr. Rosalind Hale, a professor from Xavier’s Division of Education, and joined by Tiffany Cherrie LeCesne, high school assistant principal, Janice Witter Rice, K-5 assistant principal, Lusher Charter School; Alexina Medley, principal, and Mervin Dwayne Jackson, assistant principal, Warren Easter Charter School; Janice Dupuy, principal, Audubon Charter School; Leslie Robinson Garibaldi, early childhood specialist, Orleans Parish School Board; Raquel Square, principal, Bains Lower Elementary School, West Feliciana Parish; Dr. Norvella Williams, principal, Arthur Smith Meddle School, Rapides Parish District; and Tanya Netter Wilson, division head, Lafayette Academy Charter School.

While in China the educators were immersed into fifteen days of Chinese culture- food, history, art, people, and education. Each day was filled with school visits, meeting administrators and sharing information with the students.  Students were very receptive to the official’ visits, making them “feel like celebrities, especially after teaching a couple of classes,” Tanya Netter-Wilson would say. In addition to teaching students and interacting with Hebei University administrators and faculty, the educators also visited Hebei Provincial Department of Education, where they met with Deputy Director-General Li Shengli, to discuss collaborative efforts between Louisiana K-12 education and that of Hebei Province.
