Mr. Nicholas Haywood is a senior Computer Information Systems major. During his years at Xavier, Nick has participated in nearly every activity. Nick played shooting guard in 64 games for Xavier the past two seasons after transferring from the University of Houston. He helped the Rush win 47 games, a pair of Gulf Coast Athletic Conference regular-season championships and two berths in the Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I National Championship. He scored in double figures for Xavier 19 times, made seven 3-pointers in a road game, was the GCAC conference player of the week in 2011, made a school-record 86.6 percent of his career free throws, and was voted Student Athlete of the Year for the 2012-2013 academic year. When not playing ball, Nick takes time to serve his fellow graduating seniors. As Mr. Xavier, Nick had responsibilities for organizing the homecoming court and for co-sponsoring Toys for Tots during the Christmas holidays. He also assists with other campus organizations and portrays a positive image to all Xavier students. Now in his final year at Xavier, Nick also serves as a Student Assistant Coach for the Men's Basketball team. He’s a helping hand for the team and coaches on and off the court. Nick's reach extends beyond Xavier's campus. Just last summer he was an academic mentor to more than 60 high school students during the department's summer program. Along with these fun, athletic, and service activities, Nick is a scholar in the challenging study of Computer Information Systems. As a scientist interested in business, he has completed courses in software development, databases, business logic, accounting, management, marketing, and finance. Nick has prepared himself for life after graduation. He has had many job interviews and is considering graduate school offers. Xavier's Computer Science Department is proud to recognize Mr. Nicholas Haywood as our major of the month.
