AREA RECOVERY

President Norman Francis entertains Dan Sawall, U.S. general manager for Nike Factory Stores, and two other company representatives just prior to the grand opening of the retail giant's new Community Store near campus on the corner of Carrollton and Tulane Avenues. Francis made some remarks at the event, which signals the continuing recovery of the neighborhoods surrounding the campus.

microsoft MICROSOFT CHALLENGE

Four Xavier students – Wendy Thomas, Kory Twaites, Chris Sims and Dannie Woods – are recognized for a project they developed as part of Microsoft’s Project X Challenge to computer science and computer information systems students at XU and Morehouse College.  (see story). The foursome is flanked by the three Microsoft representatives – Mwanza Russell, Christopher Broussard and Osama Hamdan '96 – who presented the students their commemorative T-shirts and the latest Microsoft Zune.

OLD FRIENDS

President Norman C. Francis chats with long-time colleague William White, chairman, president and CEO of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, during an April visit of the Foundation’s Board to campus. A longstanding supporter of XU, the Mott Foundation was among the first to offer substantial financial assistance in the critical early months of campus recovery after Hurricane Katrina.
