NEAR MISS

Despite forcing the evacuation of the entire city and several surrounding parishes, Hurricane Gustav dealt just a glancing blow to the Xavier campus, including (left) the XU seal being blown off the University Center, (right) a few broken windows in the NCF Science Complex, a fallen fence along the I-10 and assorted damaged trees.

Students were never so glad to be back in Dr. Jose Bautista's business class as when the university resumed operation September 8 following the week-long campus evacuation prompted by Hurricane Gustav.
