XU Library Documentary Film Festival
The XU library will host its first documentary film festival this spring, beginning with a presentation of Requiem for the American Dream WEDNESDAY (Jan. 25) at 3:00 p.m. and again THURSDAY (Jan. 26) at 5:30 p.m., both in the Library Resource Building, Room 400F. A brief Q&A will follow each film. Admission is free and the public invited. Five additional films are scheduled: visit HERE for more info.

OCS/SASO/CURGO/CIIP Open House
The Office of Career Services (OCS), Student Academic Success (SASO), Center for Undergraduate Research and Graduate Opportunity (CURGO), and Center for Intercultural & International Programs (CIIP) invites students and faculty to participate in their Open House scheduled MONDAY (Jan. 23) from noon to 4:00 p.m. in St. Joseph 3rd Floor. Black History Month Speaker Series
The Office of Student Service’s Black History Month Speaker Series gets underway Feb. 02 at 6:30 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom, featuring author/activist/father/journalist Marc Lamont Hill. Florida International U Summer Research Recruitment
A representative from​ Florida International University Medical School STAR Summer Research Program will be in the NCF Science Annex (1st floor) TUESDAY (Jan. 24) from 10:0 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to speak with students interested in learning more about FIU’s research opportunities and degree programs. All meetings and events scheduled through the Premedical Office are listed HERE.

Psychiatry & Narrative Medicine Workshop for Premeds
Dr. Rachel Hammer, a medicine/psychiatry resident at Tulane Medical Center, will conduct a presentation on psychiatry and narrative medicine TUESDAY (Jan. 24) at 5:30 p.m. in NCF 105. Narrative Medicine is a model of medical practice in which the physician extends empathy by listening to and understanding the plights of their patients in an effort to foster meaningful connections between patients and physicians. FYI, the knowledge and skills which frame narrative medicine may prove useful to premeds as they engage in service activities, both clinical and non-clinical. All students who are interested in becoming health professionals are encouraged to attend.

The Office of Career Services invites students to get career ready by attending the upcoming "Career Development Suited for Success Workshops" scheduled for TUESDAY (Jan. 24), 12:15 to 1:00 p.m., "Developing a Dynamic Resume", UC Room 201; TUESDAY (Jan. 24), 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., "How to Ace an Interview", UC Room 201; WEDNESDAY (Jan. 25), 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., "How to Work a Career Fair", UC Room 205;and THURSDAY (Jan. 26), 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., "Speed Interviewing", St. Joe Room 302.

STEM Day Informational Session
The Division of Education & Counseling will host a STEM Day Informational Session THURSDAY (Jan. 26) from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in the Library Resource Center Room 501. Visit HERE for details.

American U of the Caribbean Med School Recruitment
A representative from American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine will be in the NCF Science Annex (1st floor) THURSDAY (Jan. 26) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to speak with students interesting in learning about pursuing medical studies outside of the U.S.

Workshop: Healthy/Unhealthly Relationships

Sister Elise Performing Arts Series: Valerie Francis (soprano)

International Honor Society in Philosophy
The Philosophy Honor Society, Phi Sigma Tau, offers eligible students the distinction of membership, a network of over 180 chapters internationally, a forum to interact with other students interested in philosophy, the opportunity to publish in the Society’s journal and present papers at its conferences, and receipt of the Society’s publications including its careers bulletin. National Society of Leadership and Success

Study Abroad Fair / USPS Passport Fair

Spring Career Expo
The Spring Career Expo will be held Feb. 10 from noon to 4:00 p.m. in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. GRE Prep Workshop

Call for Submissions: XULAneXUS
All students are encouraged to submit their work to XULAneXUS for Vol. 14 Issue 2, to be published in March 2017. The submission deadline is Feb. 03. Visit HERE for more details. All submissions are reviewed by an editorial board of faculty and students. Student authors work one-on-one with a faculty mentor in preparing and revising scholarly projects for submission and publication.

The Office of Institutional Advancement is looking for students to work the spring phonathon SATURDAY (Jan. 28) through Feb. 09. Earn good money and help raise funds for student scholarships and academic programs. Apply by phone @ phonathon.com (enter code XU17S).

Library Newsletter Accepting Submissions
The XULA Library is inviting submissions to its new Newsletter, designed to help students to stay abreast of the goings on within the Library and XULA's Educational Resources throughout campus. Articles can revolve around anything campus, research, or resource related. The deadline for submissions (no longer than 250 words) is Jan. 31. Submissions and questions should be addressed to Melinda Williams at mwilli77@xula.edu or 520-6785.

Freshman Premed Meeting #14
Freshman Premed Biomedical Honor Corps Meeting #14 will be held MONDAY (Jan. 24) at 4:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. (attend either session) in NCF 105. Please bring a pen with you to the meeting. All freshman and new transfer premeds are encouraged to attend all group and individual premed meetings (see spring meeting schedule HERE). If you are unable to attend any premed meetings, please stop by the Premedical Office (NCF 108) to make them up.

Sophomore Premed Assessment Meetings
Students who will be applying to medical, dental, etc. school in 2018 for entry in 2019 should sign-up for and complete the One-on-One Sophomore Premed Assessment Meeting in the Premedical Office. The sign-up list and required meeting documents are available in the Premedical Office (NCF 108) near the reception desk; detailed instructions have been sent via email. Academic progress, AED Premed Honor Society membership, and early medical school acceptance program eligibility will be discussed. Go HERE to see what Sophomore Premeds should be doing this semester. Meetings will take place MONDAY (Jan. 23) through February 24.

New freshman and new transfer premeds at Xavier are encouraged to stop by the Premed Office (NCF 108) to sign-in. After completing and submitting the "Premed Update Form" (located on the reception desk in the Premed Office), new premeds will begin receiving emails from premedical advisers regarding premed meetings, recruitment visits to Xavier, summer programs, etc. Don't miss out on important information and meetings that can help you maximize your chances of gaining entry into medical, dental, etc. school!
