Dr. Daniel Sarpong, Endowed Chair and Director of the Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities Research & Education and Associate Professor, College of Pharmacy.  Dr. Sarpong's research goals include: 1) to examine the integration of socio-behavioral factors and pharmacologic management of hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia in high-risk minority patients in large epidemiological and clinical studies; and 2) to further the understanding of the nexus between drug abuse and cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Kristi Isaac Rapp, Pharmacy, Clinical Assistant Professor.  Dr. Rapp is the Co-Director of the HEAL Phase II project, supported by Merck Childhood Asthma Network, Inc.  This project aims to improve pediatric asthma management in the New Orleans area.  It is anticipated that the implementation of a multifaceted intervention in Daughters of Charity Services of New Orleans’ Clinics, including tailored asthma counseling, will have positive influences on clinical outcomes of patients and quality improvement for the health care system.

Dr. Justina Ogbuokiri, Pharmacy, Clinical Associate Professor.  Dr. Ogbuokiri, center, and her student are shown taking the blood pressure of a local physician who is participating in a research study on stroke prevention through the DASH diet and self-monitoring of blood pressures in persons with obesity and other disorders in New Orleans.

From left to right, Dr. Kathleen Kennedy, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Dr. Margarita Echeverri, Clinical Assistant Professor in the College of Pharmacy, and Dr. Cecile Brookover, Director for Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment (2010-2012).  Drs. Kennedy, Echeverri, and Brookover were recently awarded the Rufus A. Lyman Award for best paper published in the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education.  Their paper examines how the Clinical Cultural Competency Questionnaire assesses the perceived level of the cultural competence of students in the College of Pharmacy to guide curriculum development within the 4-year academic program.
