Acute Care
To make an appointment, call (504) 520-7396 Monday – Thursday 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM and Friday, 8:30AM - 4:00 PM
In the event of an obvious severe injury or illness, the student should call 911 or go immediately to the emergency department.
In the event that you develop an acute illness or injury, please call Student Health Services as soon as possible to be scheduled in the first available, same day appointment. Often times we will be able to see you within a few hours. If you experience an illness or injury that cannot wait for a scheduled same day appointment, please come into the Student Health Services for an evaluation and possible referral.
Please be aware:
Wait times in the clinic varies. Patients without an appointment will be seen on a first come, first served basis after being seen by a nurse and assessed for the seriousness of the illness/injury. Patients with serious illness or injury will always be seen first, so we encourage students with non-urgent problems to schedule an appointment so that their wait times in clinic are minimized. Students who present to the clinic for non-acute or chronic problems may be scheduled for a regular appointment on the same day or at a later date.
Treatments we can provide in the clinic:
- Nebulizer treatments for asthma exacerbation
- Antibiotics for systemic illness
- Medications for allergic reactions
- Incision and drain of an abscess
After hours illness or injuries:
In the event of a medical emergency with threat to life or limb call 911 immediately and notify Campus Police (504)520-7490.
