Single Session Visit
Meet with a counselor for a one-time only session to discuss a current problem or concern. The counselor will help you clarify your problem and work with you to develop skills and strategies to create a personalized action plan.
Visits are by appointment only. If you schedule a Single Session Visit appointment and need to cancel, please call 504-520-7315. This allows us to offer the appointment to another student.

What if I’m in crisis and need to be seen today?
If this is urgent and you are worried about your safety, someone else’s safety, and/or losing the ability to function, come to Counseling Services, St. Joseph Academic & Health Resource Center, Building #13, Room 202.
Monday - Friday: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Closed for Lunch
For urgent after-hours telephone support: please call University Police at 504-520-7490 if on campus and 911 if off-campus.
What happens at a Single Session Visit appointment?
You will meet with a counselor for 50 minutes who will offer supportive suggestions and resources. You will work together to develop skills and strategies to help you address your concern. You will leave with a personalized action plan.
Are my visits confidential?
All visits to Counseling Services are confidential and are never reported on a student’s official university record.
What if I have used the Single Session Visit in the past? Can I come back to work on a different issue?
Yes, you can. The Single Session Visit counselor will help you solve your problem and may refer you to Counseling Services if they believe you would benefit from ongoing counseling.
