Hi, my name is Chimela Soublet. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who is Nationally Certified with the National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Southern University of New Orleans, Louisiana. I received my master's degree of Counseling with concentrations in both clinical mental health and school counseling, from The University of Holy Cross in New Orleans, Louisiana. I have 10 years of experience working in the mental health field, including several years of being a high school counselor. I have several years of experience in working in Jefferson Parish Public Schools and worked briefly in St. Tammany Parish Public Schools. I also have experience in working with several behavioral health agencies, along with working part-time in private practice. I am a member of The Louisiana Counselor’s Association and The Louisiana Mental Health Counselor’s Association. I have been here, at Xavier University’s Office of Counseling and Wellness, for a year now and have had a wonderful experience working with our students thus far. My experience entails working with a diverse population from all levels of society. I have worked with clients experiencing a wide range of concerns such as: anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief/loss, academic/career challenges, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, PTSD, and other types of trauma. I counsel with an unbiased, non-judgmental perspective, and hope to provide a welcoming atmosphere for all clients.
In my experience, I find that it is particularly important to develop a healthy therapeutic relationship. It is important to me that my clients feel understood, as well as heard. It is also important that our connection with clients is based on trust, hope and faith that we can help find solutions together. Despite challenges we face, no matter how difficult; It is my belief that we all possess the ability to empower ourselves and regain control over our lives. I am passionate about helping clients find support within their communities.
