Elizabeth Smith Rousselle is Professor of Spanish in the Department of Languages. She obtained an M.A. and Ph.D. in Spanish literature from Tulane University, an M.A. in French Studies from University of California, Santa Barbara, and a B.A. in French and psychology from Smith College. She teaches Spanish language and literature at all levels and is the co-advisor to the Foreign Language Club and the Foreign Language Honor Society Phi Sigma Iota. Professor Rousselle has served as the president of the Faculty Association and as Faculty-in-Residence at Xavier’s Center for the Advancement of Teaching. She has published articles on Spanish, Spanish American, and French literature in journals such asCrítica Hispánica,Hispanófila,PsyArt, andL’Érudit franco-espagnol. She is the author ofGender and Modernity in Spanish Literature: 1789-1920(Palgrave Macmillan, 2014). With co-editor Erika Sutherland, she has completed(Con)textos femeninos: Antología de escritoras españolas, a comprehensive anthology of women writers of Spain with socio-historic contextual information (Peter Lang, 2020). Dr. Rousselle is currently working on a book examining Spanish literature by and about people of African descent.
