As she has always had a passion for education, Tonia is a graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications, a Master of Arts as a Reading Specialist and a Master’s +30 in Educational Leadership. She’s an active member of St. Paul Baptist Church of Gretna, LA under the pastoral leadership under Rev. Dr. Orin D. Grant, Sr., where she has served in a variety of capacities. She currently serves as the leader of the Education Ministry and member of the registration commission of the National Baptist Association. Tonia has taken leadership in her church’s VBS, Summer Camps, and Church Leadership Conference.
She is the founder of BrainStorm Educational Services non profit organization which she and her late husband, Andrew W. Baker, III, started in 2008. The mission of that organization is to promote literacy, self-awareness and self-esteem primarily to community youth.
No doubt, she’s a fierce yet quiet storm who is an advocate for children and all those who’s voice often gets muted in the noise of LIFE.
