Xavier University of Louisiana’s Institute for Black Catholic Studies (IBCS) has won the 2023 ACHTUS award. This award is presented by the titular Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians of the United States (ACHTUS) every year to an institution or organization “for institutional contributions to theology in keeping with the mission of the Academy.” This year, Xavier’s IBCS is being recognized with the award for its long history of being a leading national center for Black Catholic studies and its notable alumni that have made considerable theological contributions and paved ways for theological initiatives. ACHTUS formally made the announcement of the award during a banquet on Tuesday, June 6, in New Orleans.
