Durall Named New AVP of Campus Safety & Chief of Police at Xavier University
New Orleans LA – Lt. Changamire “Shanni” Durall has been named Assistant Vice President of Campus Safety and Chief of Police at Xavier University of Louisiana, announced Curtis Wright, Xavier University Vice President for Student Affairs.
Durall comes to Xavier from Norfolk State University, where she served as the Lieutenant in Charge of Investigations. Prior to Norfolk State, she served as a Sergeant at Old Dominion University and as a police officer with the Department of Defense and Virginia Beach's Sheriff's Office.
She holds a B.A. and M.S. in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice at Walden University. An official swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for later in the semester, during which the new Chief will be formally introduced to the community and she will outline her goals for X.U.P.D.
“Lt. Durall comes highly recommended from staff in law enforcement on campuses and in municipalities,” said Wright. “As we consider the work that needs to be done here at Xavier
University, we have expanded the former position of police chief and I'm proud to share that she will be joining us on May 15, 2019.
Durall brings a student-centered approach to campus law enforcement and is looking forward to serving our community. Her expanded portfolio will not only include campus safety and security, but will help us consolidate and lead campus-wide emergency management initiatives.”
