The history of New Orleans dating back to the mid 1700s and early 1800s tells us of how the Spanish took over from French and rebuilt the city. Following Hurricane Katrina, Hispanic people, specifically from Latin America, came to New Orleans once again to help rebuild the city. Based on this influence, Hispanic heritage and culture can be seen throughout the city from the 300 year-old architecture to the new wave of food establishments around the city. Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15) is the perfect time to pause and reflect on some of these contributions.
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage month, we want to highlight some of our Hispanic brothers and sisters within the Xavier community! Every week from the beginning of Hispanic Heritage month on September 15, 2019 until October 15, 2019, we will feature a”getting to know XU” bio on the Xavier University Website. Check out the Highlight for this week!
(All of the featured bio’s were produced by Ana Maria Bech of viva nola magazine )
