Xavier University of Louisiana has partnered with LCMC Health, the New Orleans Health Department, and Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center to launch the first mobile community testing site in a city-wide initiative that brings COVID-19 testing to individuals and families throughout New Orleans who live in communities that are medically vulnerable.
Xavier neighborhoods including Gert Town, Hollygrove and Dixon are being urged to take advantage of the testing this week.
In order to be tested, you must be 18 years of age or older and either have recently exposed to COVID-19 or recently showed symptoms of the virus. Results are expected to be online or delivered within two to three days.
The main goal of this initiative is early detection to slow the spread of infections. Xavier University of Louisiana's President Dr. Reynold Verret says that the University will continue to mobilize all of their efforts and resources in the fight against COVID-19.
"During this public health crisis, Xavier has been and will continue serving to ensure that all in our community, who have been affected by COVID-19, receive needed health care services" said Dr. Reynold Verret, President at Xavier University of Louisiana. “We are happy to partner with the city to be the first community mobile testing site in New Orleans and to be of service to the community as a whole."
The tests will be administered at Xavier University, XULA Lot W, 3600 Pine St. Please enter on Palm Street. The hours are Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or until the daily maximum of 250 tests is reached. After administering tests throughout the week of April 21 - 24 on Xavier's campus, the mobile testing center will move to a new site.
