Starting with the summer 2022 semester, the dual-degree option will provide Xavier Pharm.D. students with an opportunity for a broader education that will equip them for a wide range of career opportunities, including management and leadership positions within hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, retail pharmacies and managed-care organizations.

“We are proud to partner with Regis University in providing a dual-degree opportunity for our students,” said Dr. Anne McCall, Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs at Xavier University. “Regis, like Xavier, is a Catholic institution with ideals rooted in faith and a focus on contributing to the betterment of society. They understand our students and we are confident that our students will gain valuable knowledge through this new online program.”

The expanded coursework gives Doctor of Pharmacy students the business acumen and real-world skills they need to meet the growing demand for expertise in management and leadership as well as science.

The cooperative program is designed to complement the coursework of Xavier Doctor of Pharmacy students in New Orleans: Students in the dual program will attend Xavier pharmacy classes during the regular academic year, adding Regis master’s dual-degree coursework during summer semesters. Regis’ eight-week courses are offered online to provide maximum flexibility. The courses are taught by faculty who are practitioners, health care professionals and multidisciplinary industry experts.

“Our two Catholic universities share a common mission, so this partnership makes a lot of sense,” said Dr. Linda Osterlund, Academic Dean of Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions at Regis University. “Students will not only save time and money by completing the dual degree, they will help contribute as leaders changing the world of healthcare for the common good.”

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts more than 133,000 new medical and health service administration jobs will be created by 2029. Regis has created a streamlined admissions process specifically for Louisiana students, and admissions counselors provide one-on-one guidance to walk applicants through the application steps.

About Xavier University of Louisiana

Being America’s only historically Black and Catholic University is only the first among many distinctions that have set Xavier University of Louisiana apart for more than nine decades. Despite its relatively small size (3,500 students), Xavier is a nationally recognized leader in STEM and health sciences, producing more African American students who graduate from medical schools each year than any other university in the United States. Its College of Pharmacy is among the top producers of African American pharmacists.

Xavier’s liberal arts-based programs in such areas as art, business, education, psychology, and political science – as well as recent additions in bioinformatics, data science, neuroscience, crime and social justice, and jazz studies – offer students an unbeatable combination of traditional classroom study, hands-on research, service-learning opportunities, and life experiences. The winning Xavier formula provides students with a well-balanced curriculum and an environment that nurtures their intellect and feeds their souls.
