A total of 712 graduates were awarded their degrees during the two ceremonies celebrating Xavier University of Louisiana’s (XULA) 96th annual commencement held on May 27, 2023.
The first ceremony, held at 9 a.m., celebrated graduates of Xavier’s College of Pharmacy (COP) and College of Arts and Sciences Graduate Programs. The second ceremony, which honored those graduating from Xavier’s Undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences, was held at 12 p.m. Both ceremonies were livestreamed, and a recording for the morning ceremony can be viewed here while the Undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences ceremony can be viewed here.
During the COP and Graduate Programs ceremony, the university honored Lisa P. Jackson, Apple’s Vice President of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, as a recipient of an Honorary Degree of Humane Letters from Xavier University of Louisiana. Jackson also delivered the commencement address and offered remarks to the 2023 graduates from Xavier’s COP and Graduate Programs.
During the Undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences ceremony, Troy A. Carter, Sr. (‘86), U.S. Representative for Louisiana’s Second Congressional District, acted as speaker and the Director of the United States Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Shalanda Young, addressed the commencement with remarks from the White House. Rep. Carter received an Honorary Degree of Humane Letters.
