Congratulations are in order! Xavier University of Louisiana captured the “Outstanding University” award from the Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) organization. The entire Xavier community- students, faculty, and staff- came together to clean up and beautify the campus and clinched one of the seven awards presented during KLB’s Love the Boot Week.

During Earth Week, Love the Boot Week is dedicated to Louisiana’s largest litter cleanup effort through the partnership of KLB and Louisiana’s Office of the Lieutenant Governor.  KLB’s network consists of community and university affiliates, helping bring attention to litter, waste, and sustainability issues.

As a KLB University Affiliate, Xavier held a cleanup and a garden installation during Love the Boot Week.

Xavier’s Director of Sustainability and Quality Control, Helena Robison, shared that KLB  “has been a great resource through the years in assisting us to beautify Xavier and keep the campus clean. This Wildlife Art Garden was our biggest project yet and we appreciate the support and recognition for our efforts.”

Xavier Students and staff also cleaned up 675 pounds of litter (i.e., paper, beverage cans, plastic bags or bottles, wrappers, etc.) and planted 125 plants and 27 trees on Xavier’s campus.

“These organizations stepped up and showed what it means to Love the Boot,” said Louisiana’s Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “I commend them for their efforts to clean up and beautify Louisiana. Let’s all keep working together to put the paradise back in our Sportsman’s Paradise.”
