Xavier University of Louisiana is one of the twenty Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) that participated in a United Negro College Fund (UNCF) report that seeks to create a blueprint that will activate HBCU leadership in climate change and sustainability. Titled “The HBCU Climate Action Blueprint: Sustainable Campuses, Empowered Communities,” the report uses an eight-part framework to demonstrate and highlight the current climate and sustainability practices at HBCUs.
With an investment from the Waverly Street Foundation, the report also sought to form a blueprint for creating Climate Action Hubs at the participating universities. When activated, these hubs would empower the voices and perspectives of those historically underrepresented and excluded from local, national, and global responses to climate change.
