Xavier University of Louisiana graduates Dr. Pierre Johnson, Dr. Maxime Madhere and Dr. Joseph Semien continue their national tour for their book, “The Pulse of Perseverance”, which details their struggles to overcome the obstacles of poverty, inadequate K-12 educations and family dysfunction as they pursued their dreams of becoming doctors.

Rising from backgrounds marked by violence, drug use and personal struggle, the three Xavier-educated physicians talk about how they turned their trials and tribulations into stepping stones rather than roadblocks. At Xavier these three black premedical students struggled with the demands of the university’s rigorous curriculum, but formed a bond that allowed them to succeed, despite the challenges and setbacks each faced. “Pulse of Perseverance” relates a story familiar to many urban youth, and provides a roadmap for how they can overcome.
Diversity Abroad announced that Xavier University of Louisiana was chosen as the recipient of the 2020 Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion in International Education (EDIIE) Award. Xavier was considered under the Institutional/Organizational category of Student Engagement and Support.Academics
