Xavier University Speech-Language and Hearing Clinic (XUSHC)

The Xavier University Speech-Language and Hearing Clinic (XUSHC)) offers advanced Speech Pathology majors the opportunity to engage in clinical practicum experiences. Students work under the supervision of ASHA Certified and Louisiana Licensed Speech-Language Pathologists. Since its inception, XUSHC has provided services to hundreds of members of the New Orleans community and has served as the training ground for Xavier Speech Pathology majors preparing to work in schools and hospitals.

For more than 40 years, XUSHC has committed to providing quality training for future speech language pathologists to positively affect communicatively challenged individuals, their families, and our community. As a teaching program, licensed speech-language pathology and audiology faculty members supervise students as they assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, and cognitive-communication disorders in children and adults. Therapy includes all aspects of communication including speech production, fluency, language, cognition, voice, feeding, swallowing, and hearing.

XUSHC advances Xavier's mission to contribute to the promotion of a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service. Speech Pathology majors receive invaluable experience applying their knowledge and skills in a professional setting, while providing members of the community with a vital service.

Any Xavier student may seek the services of the clinic for free. A small fee is charged for children and adults from the greater New Orleans area. Spaces are limited and are filled on a semester-by-semester basis.
