Faculty & Staff
Dr. Vaz-Deville has been a member of the faculty at Xavier for nearly nine years. In 2018, she became a recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities Connections Planning grant for the design of an undergraduate minor in humanities, data science, and digital justice.
The Louisiana State Museum Presbytere’s 2013 exhibition “They Call me Baby Doll: A Mardi Gras Tradition” was based on Dr. Vaz-Deville’s book, “The ‘Baby Dolls’: Breaking the Race and Gender Barriers of the New Orleans Mardi Gras Traditions.” The book was selected as the featured work for the 2016 One Book One New Orleans campaign by the Young Leadership Council’s program. She also recently published her anthology “Walking Raddy: The Baby Dolls of New Orleans”.
