XULA Frequently Asked Questions
At XULA, Orientation is the official welcome and kick-off to your college experience. You will
meet faculty, staff, as well as new and current students. You will learn your way around campus
while making connections that will set you up for success both inside and outside of the
classroom!
Save the date: January 5th will begin move-in day, Orientation and Welcome Week. Parents will
only need to attend orientation up to January 6th. After the activities for that day have been
completed, parents will be able to travel back home while the orientation will continue for the
first-time freshmen students.
Although you have been accepted and paid your deposit, you are not automatically registered for
Orientation. In order to register, you must fill out the Orientation Registration form found in your
XULA email inbox. Complete this process and you will receive a confirmation email once you are
registered.
Yes, all new first-year and transfer students are required to attend the entire New Student
Orientation.
Yes, you should attend Orientation!
Being fiscally cleared at Xavier means you have made arrangements with the university regarding
your bill (tuition, fees, room, board, etc.).
Although you have completed this process, there are other sessions and activities that will aid
you with understanding the campus and what it means to be a Xavierite.
In order to secure your move-in time, you must submit your housing deposit of $100.00
pay housing deposit and complete the housing application. To
complete the housing application, you must first log into the application itself. The username is
the primary part of your Xavier email address (everything before the “@” symbol) which was
assigned to you after you were accepted. The password is “Xav” and then the last 5-digits of your
Xavier ID number (this number can be found on your acceptance letter; “900######”). Once this
has been completed, Housing and Residence Life will send your official move-in information to
you over the summer.
We encourage you to submit all requested documentation prior to Orientation. However, these
offices will be available during Orientation to accept these documents. Please keep in mind that
late documents and/or payments will prevent you from being able to move into your residence
hall.
There is no cost for Orientation. However, we encourage you to bring spending money for events
and other things you may want to do.
In the spirit and tradition of “southern hospitality”....we have you covered! New Orleans is known

lunch and dinner throughout Orientation.
Yes! We encourage you to attend all sessions, activities, and events for New Student Orientation.
We have worked to put all of these elements together to ensure you have the best possible
experience with your transition. If you miss a portion, you won’t receive the full experience.
Our Orientation process is more than just a program of speakers. As the official kick-off of
Welcome Week, you will find a variety of activities to introduce you to Xavier. Our philosophy is to
do all we can on the front end to ensure you are successful on the back end (Graduation).
Yes, parents/guardians and family members are more than welcome! In fact, we strongly

checklist. Once complete, all you need to bring is an open mind and a valid ID (Driver’s License,
State I.D., Passport, etc.)
To make sure your Orientation is the best experience possible, first ask yourself these six
questions:
1. Have you received your official letter of acceptance from the Office of Admissions?
2. Have you confirmed your admissions via your Admissions deposit?
3. Has Xavier received your final, official transcript(s)?
4. Have you submitted your record of immunization to Health Services?
5. Have you already accessed your XULA email?
6. Have you logged into Banner and accepted financial awards posted to your account?
Your academic schedule is created for you prior to your arrival for Orientation. During Orientation, you will meet with your academic adviser to review your courses and discuss any changes you would like to make.
Accommodations for students with disabilities are available upon request. Please notify the
Office of Disability Services of your need for accommodations at (504) 520-7315.
Feel free to contact us at orientation@xula.edu and our staff will be more than happy to answer
any of your questions!
Foreign Language Placement Testing
If you have taken two years of Foreign Languages and want to take French or Spanish at Xavier, you are required to complete the free, online placement exam.
If you have taken at least two years of either French or Spanish in high school, you are required to take the WebCAPE Language Placement Test that will assist us in placing you in the appropriate language class. In addition to the courses required by the new XU Core Curriculum, you will have many opportunities to take elective courses that allow you maximum flexibility in designing your college experience to be enriching and satisfactory. Language study will enhance this experience and provide you with a real preparation “to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society.”
This test will provide you with the opportunity to place into the level of language proficiency most appropriate for you, and upon successful completion of that course, you will also receive credit for the course immediately preceding the one that you have completed. (We encourage you to review the Language Placement Policy at Language Placement at Xavier before taking the placement test.)
The Xavier Language Placement test uses WebCAPE, an online test developed by the Humanities Research Center at Brigham Young University. It should take you about 30 minutes to complete the test. Please note that the results of this test will be used for course placement and you may not use any form of outside assistance.
When you are ready to begin the test, you should click on the link below:
http://bit.ly/2P61KsX
The required password that you must enter is gold1. (Don’t type the period.) Then you should choose your language, follow the prompts, and begin. The test will stop you when you reach your level of proficiency. Keep a copy of the scores on your results page and send it to gfarudi@xula.edu if you would like to have us advise you as to your placement results immediately. Your scores will be provided to the Admissions Office and to your advisor as well.
