Championing Health Equity: Dr. Derek Robinson's Journey from Xavier University to HCSC Leadership

In this first episode, we sit down with Dr. Derek Robinson, a 1998 Xavier University alumnus and the Chief Medical Officer at the Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC). Dr. Robinson delves into his pivotal role in healthcare management, focusing on his commitment to addressing healthcare disparities within marginalized communities.

He shares how his time at Xavier University laid the groundwork for his leadership journey, highlighting the institution's strong sense of community and unwavering support. Reflecting on memorable experiences, Dr. Robinson discusses how Xavier's mission continues to inspire him in his advocacy for health equity.

MEET THE HOSTS

TaShia Hogue is a mass communication major with a minor in creative writing at Xavier University of Louisiana, hailing from the South Side of Chicago, IL. As Host of the Xavier Gold Live Podcast, she brings her personality to life while exploring various forms of storytelling.

On campus, TaShia is active in organizations like Women of Xavier and The Xavier Herald, contributing as a student journalist to the university's student newspaper. She believes in the power of storytelling and communication to inspire change, build bonds, and amplify marginalized voices.

TaShia volunteers at her church as a music technician and works at the local campus bookstore. Her previous work experience includes interviewing, camera operations, and social media marketing. She has also assisted in producing video projects like XU News and promotional work for the DePaul Community Health Center. Aspiring to become a radio personality, TaShia enjoys binge-watching TV shows and YouTube interviews in her free time.

Ja'lyn Jones is a mass communication major with a concentration in multimedia at Xavier University of Louisiana from Holly Springs, Mississippi. In his role as host of the Xavier Gold Live Podcast, Ja'lyn utilizes his skills in editing, interviewing, camera operation, and social media marketing. Alongside his podcast hosting duties, he's a contributing writer to the Xavier Herald, the university'ss student newspaper and pursues music production and writing.

Ja'lyn is a scholar of multiple organizations, including the Exponential Honors Program, the US-UK Fulbright Commission, the Horatio Alger Association, and the National Society of Leadership and Success.

While passionate about music, poetry, motivational speaking, and content creation, Ja'lyn remains intentional about dedicating time to connecting with God, spending time with family and friends, playing video games, and participating in sports.
