CARE Program
CARE at Xavier University of Louisiana is an integrated and holistic program that focuses on first-year, first-generation students to provide them targeted support as they progress through their first year of college. The CARE Program is built on four pillars: Career Readiness (C), Academic Efficacy (A), Resilience (R), and Engagement (E).
- Career Readiness – possessing the knowledge and skills needed to successfully enter the workforce
- Academic Efficacy –the belief that one is prepared to succeed in their academic coursework
- Resilience – the ability to confront and overcome obstacles to educational success
- Engagement – integration into and participation in the college environment

CARE Network
The CARE Network is designed to support CARE students in each of the four areas of focus. The cornerstone of CARE is the relationship between and among the students and the various parts of the Network.
- Students – Xavier’s first-time, first-generation college students
- Colleagues – Xavier students who have completed at least one year of college and provide mentorship and guidance to CARE students
- Coaches – Program staff who serve as advisors, advocates, and accountability agents for CARE students
- Circles – spaces to build community among CARE students, which can support the formation of deep and lasting relationships
