Star Programs

Xavier University of Louisiana's Star Programs provide middle and high school students (grades 7–12) with a head start on some of the most challenging material they will encounter in their upcoming high school courses. Through immersive learning, students gain a foundation in core STEM subjects, preparing them for success as they move through their academic careers. The five distinct programs—CHEMStar, BIOStar, PHYStar, MATHStar I: Algebra, and MATHStar II: Geometry—are designed to be taken the summer before the student enrolls in the corresponding course. Over three intensive weeks, participants learn approximately one-third of the content covered in a standard high school course, ensuring they begin the school year with a strong grasp of the material.

Students who are eligible for Star Programs meet the following criteria:

  • Middle or high school student (rising 7th–12th grade)
  • Enrolled in the corresponding high school course for Fall 2025
  • Eager to meet new people and work in teams
  • Open to taking on a new academic challenge

Classes are held Monday through Friday, with two exceptions: there will be no classes on Juneteenth (June 19th) or Independence Day (July 4th) when the university is closed.

On the first day of the program, all students and their parents/guardians will attend a mandatory orientation at 9 a.m. At the conclusion of the program, an Award Ceremony will take place to celebrate students' accomplishments, with families and guests invited to attend. The ceremony time will be announced later in the program.

Program fees include all classroom materials, t-shirt and backpack, lunch every day in the XULA Cafe, and Before Care (7-8:30 am) and After Care (3-6:00 pm). Students who attend Before Care will also include breakfast in the XULA Cafeteria. Any student may participate in Before and After Care.
